Taiwan’s Lin Yu-Ting eased to the Olympic gold medal after outpointing Poland’s Julia Szeremeta in the women’s featherweight final.
The 28-year-old is one of two female boxers that have caused controversy at the Paris Games having been caught up in a gender row.
The pair were disqualified from last year’s World Championships after failing gender specific tests, where it was found they had ‘elevated levels of testosterone’ and XY chromosomes.
But the pair were cleared by the IOC to compete in Paris, a decision that has divided the boxing world.
Algerian star Khelif took home the gold on Friday night after beating China’s Yang Liu.
And now Lin has followed suit, where she won a comfortable unanimous decision victory in a three-round affair where she oozed class.
Lin made great use of her jab throughout as she used her reach advantage beautifully, while expertly displaying her technical qualities.
Her performance is even more impressive considering the adversity she faced from fans, professional boxers – and her Olympic opponents – during her run to the final.
She made headlines after her Round of 16 victory over Uzbekistan’s Sitora Turdibekova after her opponents left the ring in tears after being dumped out.
And after her quarter-final win against Svetlana Staneva, the Bulgarian protested inside the squared circle with a cryptic hand gesture.
She pulled off her gloves, pointed to herself and made a double X symbol with her fingers, an apparent reference to her XX chromosomes.
It was the same protest used by Yildiz Kahraman after the Turkish boxer lost against Lin in the semi-finals earlier in the week.
