Shawn Porter has told talkSPORT.com that his former foe Terence Crawford is absolutely capable of dethroning Canelo Alvarez.
Porter, now retired from boxing, is currently in LA working as a pundit ahead of Crawford’s WBA super-welterweight world title clash with Israil Madrimov on Saturday night.
If successful, the American will join an elite group of four-weight world champions.
But Crawford’s ambitions do not end there.
He is ultimately aiming to jump up a further two divisions for a clash with super-middleweight king Canelo.
First though, he must overcome unbeaten Uzbek Madrimov.
“He’s just a stone-cold athlete,” Porter told talkSPORT.com when asked what Madrimov will be up against on Saturday.
“He’s extremely confident, and obviously extremely skilled and talented.
“Madrimov is up against a lot of athleticism, he’s up against a lot of speed, a lot of power.
“And he’s up against an intellect that can’t be duplicated.
“So if I was in Madrimov’s corner I’d say, ‘What you do, don’t divert from what you do.’
“You have to keep pushing and maybe you’ll push a button at the right time.”
Moving on to talk of Crawford vs Canelo, Porter insisted his former opponent can emerge victorious.
He even went as far as to say that, depending on how Crawford looks against Madrimov, it may not be an upset in his eyes to see Canelo lose to the naturally smaller man.
“It’s a realistic fight,” Porter insisted.
“In some way it would be an upset if Terence won, but I don’t think so.
“Especially if he does something amazing on fight night here against Madrimov, I think it’s not an upset.
“That’s a 50/50 to me and I do think Crawford could beat Canelo.”
