MMA icon Clay Guida is desperate to take part at UFC 306 in what could be a farewell fight.
The UFC Hall of Famer is 42-years-old and approaching the end of his career, which has seen him compete an incredible 62 times since becoming a professional MMA fighter in 2003.
Guida wants to sign off with a flourish and has asked every lightweight on the UFC roster to step up and fight him in Las Vegas two months from now.
He wrote on Instagram: “Since I don’t call out individuals, I’m calling out All The Lightweights!!!
“Who wants to step into The SPHERE with me and throwdown in The Thunderdome September 14th?!?! We’re always ready to RocknRoll!!! Bring It On!!!”
Earlier this year, Dana White excitedly announced that he would be taking his MMA promotion to the Las Vegas Sphere, which holds 18,600 people and cost £2billion.
The arena that took five years to build and has unparalleled immersive video and audio capabilities will host a UFC show celebrating Mexican Independence Day.
White has promised it will be the ‘greatest live sporting event anyone has ever seen’, and UFC stars are lining up to secure a spot on the smaller-than-usual fight card.
Typically, MMA’s premier promotion has 12, 13 or 14 fights at each event, but that number has been slightly reduced for UFC 306.
“We’re going to do ten (fights),” White told Pat McAfee on Monday.
“There will be a main, co-main, and obviously this card will be very Mexican-heavy.”
Unfortunately for Guida, he doesn’t fit the bill as an American with Italian heritage.
White insists this is the only chance his fighters will get to compete at The Sphere.
He added: “I’m already $17m (£13.3M) into this thing, and we’re not anywhere near September yet.
“I’m going in one night, one time and that’s it. Never again.
“That’s why it’s gonna be the most unique, badass, incredible show you’ve ever seen in sports.”
