Turkey and Czechia’s clash set the record for the most cards ever shown in a European Championship match.
Turkey won 2-1 thanks to Cenk Tosun’s winner in the fourth minute of stoppage time to send them through to the Euro 2024 last 16.
Czechia played most of the match with ten men as Antonin Barak was sent off after 20 minutes for two bookable offences.
However, referee Istvan Kovacs brandished a record number of cards throughout the match, with many coming after full time.
Both sets of players clashed on the pitch once the result was confirmed, with Czech forward Tomas Chory shown a red card.
In total, 16 yellow cards and two red cards were issued by Kovacs, which is the most single European Championship match ever.
Many of the cautions came during the chaotic scenes at the end as tensions boiled over on the pitch following an entertaining match.
Hakan Calhanoglu fired Turkey into the lead six minutes into the second half before Tomas Soucek equalised for Czechia.
They pushed for a much-needed winning goal to avoid crashing out of the tournament but Tosun dealt a late, killer blow.
Frustrations were on full show during the full-time brawl as the Czech Republic head home and Turkey progress to the round of 16.
They finished second in Group F, with Georgia coming third having beaten table-toppers Portugal 2-0 on the night.
Turkey will face Austria in the knockout stage and victory would see them play Romania or the Netherlands in the quarter-finals.
It’s only the third time they have progressed from the group stage at the European Championship, and last did so in 2008 when they reached the semi-finals.
However, they look set to be without Barak and Chory following their red cards in what proved to be a feisty encounter.
