Novak Djokovic hopped on a plane to watch Serbia crash out of Euro 2024 just hours after practising at Wimbledon.
Having taken part in a training session at Wimbledon on Tuesday afternoon ahead of the tournament starting next week, Djokovic raced to Munich to watch his country play at Euro 2024 later that evening.
Serbia faced Denmark in a crunch Group C fixture and needed a win to stand any chance of qualifying for the knockout stage.
However, the Balkan state could only manage a 0-0 draw, which left them bottom of the group as England and Slovenia also played out a bore draw.
He wore Serbia shirt, greeted players and the coaches, and belted out the national anthem. Though that wasn’t enough to inspire them to the knockout stages.
Now the 24-time Grand Slam winner will be heading back to London after his quick excursion across the continent.
Djokovic was training at Wimbledon on Tuesday afternoon as he continues his recovery from knee surgery.
It is the same problem that saw him pull out of the French Open earlier this month after his superhuman victory over Francisco Cerundolo in the fourth round.
The 37-year-old is yet to decide whether or not he will play at SW19 this year, which gets underway on Monday.
He is not the only one battling to prove his fitness with Andy Murray also toiling, though his mother has lashed out at reports her son will not take part.
Djokovic only underwent surgery on his knee less than three weeks ago.
Nevertheless, the world No. 2 was on the practice court at Wimbledon this week wearing heavy strapping on his knee.
That did not stop the 2022 Wimbledon winner from moving freely, though, as he looks to reclaim his SW19 crown.
Doing so would see him match Roger Federer’s record of winning Wimbledon eight times and Djokovic only has sights for the title.
“I didn’t come here to play a few rounds,” said Djokovic.
“I’m going to play if I really know. I’m going to take it day-by-day and then make a decision based on the conclusion that I and team members have made.
“The feelings after surgery I had was always going to try to make Wimbledon, even though many people think it’s maybe not realistic or not smart.
“My team and I know what we’re doing daily to enable me to play so I’m actually very pleased with the way I’m moving on the court considering that it’s under three weeks from the surgery.
“I really will play only if I really know that I’m in a state which is good enough to go far in the tournament and fight for the title.”
