The Travelers Championship betting preview
This week’s PGA Tour event, the Travelers Championship, is another of its Signature Events with an elite and limited field.
But the only elite performer anyone is talking about is Rory McIlroy and he isn’t even playing!
Nonetheless, what we all want to know is how much his future will be limited by what happened on the final holes of last week’s US Open.
With four holes to play of the year’s third major, the Northern Irishman held the tournament in his hands but missed short putts on both the 16th and 18th greens that left him hoping for an error from Bryson DeChambeau.

The big-hitter gave McIlroy hope before playing what he called the “greatest shot of my life” to secure his own second major championship triumph.
McIlroy released a statement this week describing Sunday as “probably the toughest day I’ve had in my nearly 17 years as a professional golfer”.
He also revealed that he had dropped out of the field for this week and will reappear at the Scottish Open in July.
Who does play and can win? Let’s see.
The Travelers Championship betting tips
Find my best picks for the Travelers Championship below.
🏌️♂️ Patrick Cantlay each way
After a sticky period during the spring, Patrick Cantlay found form last week in the US Open at Pinehurst (where he finished third) and he has to be backed to ride that wave.
He finished fourth in this event last year, carding a brilliant 61 in round three, and he’s not finished outside the top 15 in his last six visits to the course.
He’s also just an exceptional performer on courses that are, like this one, designed by Pete Dye.
Cantlay has 10 top five finishes on them – and four in his last seven starts.
He’s a solid each way option at 20/1 in bet365’s eight-place market.

🏌️♂️ Sam Burns each way
The top 10 finish Sam Burns recorded in last week’s US Open was doubly significant.
On the one hand, it was this talented player’s first in a major championship.
On the other, it was his fourth top 15 finish in his last five starts.
He’s another player with a fine Pete Dye log book – in his case, he’s finished top 20 in 11 of his 24 starts, including victory in the WGC Dell Technologies Match Play at Austin Country Club.
His win in the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge is also instructive because, like TPC River Highlands, it is a short par-70 with bent grass greens.
He’s 40/1 each way with Betfair paying six places.
⛳ Bet on Sam Burns at 40/1 with Betfair⛳
🏌️♂️ Brian Harman each way
Finally, stick with the each way options and add the 2023 Open champion Brian Harman.
He owns a remarkably consistent record on the course, making 11 of 13 cuts and registering a top eight finish in six of his last nine appearances.
His form on Pete Dye designs is also superb.
He was second on this course last year, second again at TPC Sawgrass in March and 12th at Harbour Town in April.
His recent returns have been solid rather than spectacular (three top 30s in four starts) but this test is right in the short hitter’s wheelhouse and another good week is well within him.
⛳ Bet on Brian Harman at 40/1 with Paddy Power ⛳
