Slovenia vs Denmark predictions
Denmark were the surprise package at Euro 2020 (held 12 months later due to the coronavirus pandemic).
Despite losing their first two games at the pan-continental competition, including a 1-0 loss to Finland that was overshadowed by the cardiac arrest suffered by Christian Eriksen, Denmark reached the knockout phase thanks to a 4-1 thrashing of Russia in Copenhagen.
They then breezed past Wales in the round of 16, winning 4-0, before defeating Czech Republic 2-1 in the quarters. That put Denmark in the last four, where they only lost to England in extra time.
Given their exploits in 2021, Kasper Hjulmand’s side were widely labelled dark horses for World Cup 2022. Yet Denmark were perhaps the biggest disappointment in Qatar, where a return of one point from a possible nine sent them home at the end of the group stage.
Which Denmark will turn up in Germany? It is hard to tell right now.
He would never admit it publicly, but Hjulmand must have been reasonably pleased with the draw. England are leading contenders to lift the trophy next month, but Denmark are the clear favourites to claim second.
Neither Serbia nor Slovenia should be underestimated, though. And it is also worth bearing in mind that Denmark did not set the world alight in qualifying.
They may have topped their group, but Slovenia finished with the same number of points and both Finland and Kazakhstan were not far behind. It was certainly not the procession that many Danes expected it to be.
The team has not changed much since the World Cup. Denmark are still reliant on Christian Eriksen, who has shown signs of decline over the last couple of years.
One newcomer is Rasmus Hojlund and there will be pressure on the Manchester United striker to score goals at Euro 2024. If he does not, Denmark will struggle to get beyond the last 16.
Slovenia vs Denmark betting tips
Denmark will be seeking a win as they get started at the European Championship in 2024.
Draw – 8/1 (Betfred)
There was not much separating Denmark and Slovenia in the qualification campaign.
Both sides amassed 22 points, and while Slovenia finished with the superior goal difference, Denmark edged them out in top spot due to the head-to-head record.
The teams drew 1-1 in Ljubljana, before Denmark registered a narrow 2-1 victory in the return fixture.

Slovenia have shown before that they can match Denmark and that will give them belief ahead of this tussle in Stuttgart.
Slovenia could surprise one or two people this summer. They are plainly the underdogs in this encounter, yet Matjaz Kek and his players will not mind that at all. Kek is a hugely popular figure in the country, having also led the national team to the 2010 World Cup.
Slovenia are compact without the ball and difficult to break down. They also have a real sense of togetherness and spirit. Denmark could be frustrated in their opening game.

Under 2.5 goals – 7/10 (VBET)
Denmark are a tactically adaptable team under Hjulmand.
They can switch between a four-man and three-man backline but are likely to go with the former here, as they often do against teams they are expected to beat.
The big question is whether they will score enough goals. In four of their 10 qualifiers, they either failed to score or only made the net bulge once.
Denmark can at times be a little predictable going forward, which could be an issue against a well-drilled team like Slovenia.
This is Hojlund’s first major tournament and he was far from prolific for Manchester United in 2023/24. Mikkel Damsgaard has struggled for form and fitness since the last Euros, while Eriksen is the only member of the squad who has scored more than 15 times for his country.
Slovenia’s principal objective on Sunday will be to keep things tight at the back. With Denmark unlikely to find their best rhythm in their first game of the tournament, goals could be in short supply on Sunday.

Benjamin Sesko to score any time – 15/4 (bet365)
Both Arsenal and Chelsea have been linked with Benjamin Sesko in recent weeks, but the RB Leipzig striker has just signed a new contract to commit himself to the German outfit.
Now that his future at club level has been sorted out, Sesko can dedicate his full attention to Euro 2024.
There is no doubt who Slovenia’s two most important players are. At one end, Jan Oblak of Atletico Madrid has shown himself to be one of the world’s best goalkeepers over the last few years.
At the other end, Sesko is one of the hottest young strikers in European football right now.
The 21-year-old scored 18 goals for Leipzig in 2023/24 and his fearlessness will be a major asset for his country in Group C – starting with Sunday’s showdown in Stuttgart.
