The Euro 2024 logo was revealed nearly three years ago and we’ll be seeing plenty of it over the next few weeks.
And the reason for UEFA’s choices in regards to the colours and design are interesting and have a deeper meaning.
What is the meaning behind the Euro 2024 logo?
The logo for the upcoming tournament was initially revealed to the world in October 2021 at a special ceremony in Berlin at the Olympiastadion.
It consists of the Henri Delaunay trophy in the middle.
There are then 24 sections of colour, which represent the 24 nations competing in Germany.
As part of the logo, the 55 UEFA members’ flags all form an eclipse that creates the Olympiastadion roof.
As well as the logo, there is a brand message from UEFA.
They want everyone from all backgrounds to feel safe attending the football this summer.
It’s their view that some people haven’t felt comfortable going to football in the past, so they want that to change.
Football is for everyone, and the logo celebrates that.
The logo is accompanied by the slogan ‘United by Football’, which was initially used by Germany when they were bidding to host this year’s Euros.
There are also separate logos for every host city, which include famous landmarks from each.
Speaking at the launch of the logo, UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin said: “It is great to see the logo of UEFA EURO 2024 come to life at the iconic Olympiastadion.
“From now on, the tournament has a brand identity which reflects the ambition we have together with the host association and host cities: A Euros which is truly for everyone.
“For one month, we will be united by football in the heart of Europe.”
