Max Homa is looking forward to some family love after his underwhelming US Open display.
Homa missed the cut at Pinehurst, carding a second round 75 to finish on six-over-par and heading home early.
The 33-year-old is one of the best players in the game at the moment without a major win.
After claiming a T3 at The Masters in April, he then finished a lowly T35 at the PGA Championship last month and has now seen the US Open pass him by.
Many believe Homa is capable of winning a major but will have to wait until next month’s Open at Royal Troon for another chance.
Despite his poor showing at Pinehurst, Homa isn’t downbeat.
Instead, he hailed the 2024 US Open venue as his new favourite course and is looking forward to some extra family time over the weekend.
Homa, who will play in the Travelers Championship next week, posted on social media: “Sucks missing the cut. Pinehurst may be my favourite course I’ve ever played.
“On the bright side my wife is still a rocket, my son is cool as hell, and I get another chance next week.”
Homa was playing his opening two rounds alongside Bryson DeChambeau, who is just one off leader Ludvig Aberg heading into Saturday’s third round.
DeChambeau, who went close to winning the PGA Championship recently, has shot 67 and 69 over the opening two days at Pinehurst and is winning a legion of new fans.
“They’re awesome [the fans],” he said after his round on Friday. “They’ve been super nice to me and it’s fun feeding off that energy. I love it.
“I’ve learned a lot about myself in general and what makes me not just a better golfer, but a person – how can I be more entertaining and give the fans what they deserve?
“I’m excited for the game that I have right now. I feel pretty confident and ready to get after it this weekend.”
