Lloyd Kelly has rejected interest from several top European clubs to agree a five-year contract with Newcastle, talkSPORT understands.
Centre-back Kelly, a free agent after leaving Bournemouth, is set to undergo a medical later this week.
Italian giants Juventus were among the sides to show an interest in Kelly.
The defender, who can also play at left-back, was signed for Bournemouth by Newcastle boss Eddie Howe.
Now the pair will reunited at St James’ Park as the Magpies look to challenge for the top four once again.
Kelly played 23 times in the Premier League last term as injuries interrupted his campaign.
After joining from Bristol City for £13million in 2019 he made 141 appearance in total for the Cherries score three goals and laying on eight for his teammates.
Such is the regard he was held in, Kelly was named club captain in 2022 after the exit of Steve Cook.
He’s previously been an England youth international, playing nine times for the Under-20s and 10 times for the Under-21s, playing at two European Championships with the latter.
The free transfer signing comes a week after Newcastle missed out on a similar deal.
Howe had wanted to land out of contract Fulham centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo too.
However, the Magpies were beaten to the punch by Chelsea who have signed the ex-Man City academy graduate as a replacement for the outgoing Thiago Silva.
