Osleys Iglesias scored one of the most brutal knockouts of 2024 on Thursday night.
The undefeated super-middleweight prospect made a huge statement by stopping Evgeny Shvedenko in the opening stanza at the Montreal Casino in Montreal, Canada.
Shvedenko (16-2) looked to be a good step up on paper for the Cuban puncher, who has knocked out all but one of his 11 professional opponents (11-0).
The Russian veteran had previously never been finished and recently took William Scull the 12-round distance in an IBF title eliminator.
However, he proved to be no match for Iglesias, who decked Shvedenko with a vicious right hook with just over 10 seconds left in the first round.
As the 33-year-old crashed to the canvas he went into convulsions on his back.
On-site medical staff cleared the ropes to treat the fallen fighter while Iglesias celebrated his victory by dancing around the ring.
Fans were left stunned by the brutality of the KO and took to social media to give their reaction.
One fan wrote: “Get this man to the hospital asap. This was dangerous. What a knockout.”
Another tweeted: “That’s really scary hope bro is ok. Take a year off! Or more!”
A third posted: “I have seen many knockouts on TV because I love boxing, but I have never seen one as terrifying as this one… I was shocked.”
Meanwhile, someone else added: “Easily one of the most uncomfortable knockouts I have ever seen live.
“Looked like he was being full-on electrocuted. Brutal.”
Iglesias retained the IBO super-middleweight trinket in victory and should see a healthy boost in his ranking with the four major sanctioning bodies following the stand-out display.
Currently, he is only rated by the WBC, whom he occupies the No.9 spot with although Ring Magazine have him as the No.8 super-middleweight in the world.
Canelo Alvarez is the undisputed champion at 168lbs but his belts may become fractured if he chooses to vacate the IBF strap rather than defend it against his mandatory challenger, Scull.
The purse bids for the fight have been postponed until June 13, giving Canelo an additional week to make his final decision.
