Former Olympic gold medallist Audley Harrison insists Daniel Dubois has a lot to learn.
‘Triple D’ has had a dramatic career resurgence over the last six months.
The young British heavyweight had been branded “a quitter” by boxing fans after seeing out counts against Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk on one knee.
But gutsy wins over Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic in his last two outings have gone a long way in shifting the public’s perception.
His victory over the latter appears to have landed him a fight with fellow countryman Anthony Joshua at Wembley Stadium in September.
Dubois’ promoter Frank Warren recently informed talkSPORT that the pair are in negotiations to square off in the summer.
The general feeling among members of the boxing fraternity is that Dubois now has the intangibles to compete with the upper echelons of the heavyweight division.
However, Harrison insists there are still several technical improvements that must be made if he hopes to have any chance of beating Joshua.
“There’s a few things he’s going to have to clean up to go through Joshua. I’m very technical,” he told Betting Sites.
“Defensively his hands have got to come up just a little bit more. He wants to roll his shoulders. He needs to keep his hands higher.
“If AJ throws quick punches, he’s going to get caught. His shoulders want to be a bit looser and just come up a little so that he can ride the shots a little better.”
Much of Dubois’ improvement has been attributed to his link-up with head trainer Don Charles.
But Harrison believes he can take Dubois to the next level under his watch.
“Dubois needs a finisher. That’s the kind of trainer I am, I can see straight away what somebody is doing wrong,” he added.
“I know if I had him in the gym, the stuff I’d have him doing would clean him up.
“I can see what he needs just to finish him off and it would help him against somebody like Joshua.
“Even Joshua, I can watch him and see what he needs to complete his style.”
