Denmark vs Sweden predictions
Denmark exceeded expectations at Euro 2020. Despite losing their first two games, in part because of the near-tragic distraction of Christian Eriksen’s on-field cardiac arrest against Finland, the Danes advanced to the knockout phase.
There they defeated Wales and the Czech Republic, before going down to England after extra time in the semi-finals.
It was a fine run from Kasper Hjulmand’s side, who were duly tipped as dark horses going into World Cup 2022. But Denmark could not live up to those expectations, crashing out in the group stage after collecting one point from a possible nine against Tunisia, France and Australia.
Can they bounce back? That is the question facing the national team ahead of Euro 2024. The quarter-finals are the aim, although finishing second in Group C could bring a last-16 clash with hosts Germany.
It is by no means a given that Denmark will secure a top-two berth in their group, however. England are the clear favourites to finish top, while Serbia will be aiming to challenge Denmark and Slovenia could be a factor too.
They qualified as group winners, albeit in one of the easier sections of the campaign. Even then Denmark finished level on points with Slovenia, while Finland and Kazakhstan were not far behind.
Some Danish fans believe Hjulmand has already taken the team as far as he can. This is a decisive tournament for the 52-year-old, who is unlikely to survive another group-stage exit.
Before they kick off their tournament with a crunch clash against Slovenia on June 16, Denmark will take on Sweden and Norway in a pair of warm-up friendlies.
Both fixtures will be a good test for Hjulmand’s men, despite the fact neither of their Nordic neighbours managed to qualify for the event in Germany.
Denmark vs Sweden betting tips
Denmark will go head-to-head with Sweden in an international friendly on Wednesday evening.
Draw – 30/11 (Vbet)
Sweden might be the strongest side in Europe that failed to qualify for the European Championship. That is certainly what the FIFA World Rankings suggest: the Swedes are 27th overall and 15th on their continent, above the likes of Serbia, Turkey, Romania and Scotland.
Yet Sweden were hugely disappointing in qualifying. They finished third in their group, behind Belgium and Austria, after picking up just 10 points from a possible 24. Sweden were closer to Azerbaijan in fourth than the two qualifying berths.

There was no second chance in the play-offs, so Jon Dahl Tomasson and his players will be watching the upcoming tournament unfold from their hotel rooms.
That does not mean Sweden cannot get a result on Wednesday, though. They will feel they have something to prove after missing out on the Euros, while former Denmark international Tomasson will be keen to claim an early scalp following his appointment in February.
A win could be beyond the visitors to Copenhagen, but we like their chances of avoiding defeat in this friendly.

First half higher scoring – 11/10 (Spreadex)
Denmark scored 11 first-half goals in qualifying compared to eight after the interval. As far as this match is concerned, there is reason to believe there will be more action in the opening 45 minutes than in the second period.
Hjulmand will not name a starting XI and stick with it for the entirety of the game. It is all about managing minutes after a gruelling club season.
The Denmark boss has named a 26-man squad already and he will want to take a look at virtually every player against Sweden and Norway.
Football matches tend to contain more goals after the break, so the odds on tipping a higher-scoring first half are usually appealing.
That is certainly the case here and it could be worth taking a punt given the nature of this set of pre-Euro 2024 friendlies.
⚽ Tip the first half to contain more goals at 11/10 with Spreadex ⚽
Alexander Isak to score any time – 5/2 (Betfair)
Viktor Gyokeres was one of the strikers of the European season at club level. The former Coventry City frontman was sensational in his debut campaign at Sporting CP, finding the back of the net 43 times in 50 appearances.
Unfortunately for Sweden, Gyokores is now nursing a knee injury and will play no part in either this match or Saturday’s meeting with Serbia.
That leaves Alexander Isak free to lead the line, with support provided by Dejan Kulusevski, Emil Forsberg and Anthony Elanga.
That is a solid front four and we should see Sweden fashion a fair few chances at Parken. Isak, a creator as well as a converter, is likely to be front and centre for Tomasson’s side.
Like Gyokeres, the Newcastle United man enjoyed a fantastic season with his club and he will now be looking to transfer his form to the international stage.
Isak’s record for his country is not spectacular – 10 goals in 44 caps – and he will be looking to add to his tally here.
⚽ Choose Alexander Isak to score any time at 5/2 with Betfair ⚽
