We all doubt ourselves sometimes – and it turns out, the greatest footballers of our time are no exception.
When you are as good at football as someone like European Champion and Lionesses legend Keira Walsh, it is hard to imagine how you could possibly question your skill.
But former Barcelona star Vicky Losada has revealed how the English midfielder expressed one particular concern before moving to the Spanish club two years ago.
Walsh completed a move from Manchester City to Barcelona in 2022 for a fee of around £400,000.
It was a fee that saw her become the most expensive women’s player in the world, until it was later broken again by Chelsea’s Mayra Ramirez and Bay FC’s Racheal Kundananji.
And Losada, herself a former Champions League winner with Barcelona, was full of praise for the Lioness and her skill.
The Spanish international and Brighton captain was visiting the finals day of the Bloomsbury x LALIGA Schools Tournament in North London to help inspire young girls to play football.
She opened up to talkSPORT at the event about how important it was to her to attend events like this and to ensure aspiring footballers had role models to look up to.
And for so many up-and-coming footballers in England, there are few better role models than the Lionesses and the likes of Walsh.
“Keira is just talent – pure talent!” Losada told talkSPORT.
Losada remembered a funny conversation she had with Walsh when she had been preparing for her move from the WSL to Barcelona.
The Lioness had expressed a somewhat surprising concern, especially given her remarkable talent on the pitch.
“I remember her saying to me when she was going to sign for Barcelona, she was like ‘I’m going to be the worst in the rondos!'” said Losada.
“And I was thinking, no you won’t! You are one of the most skillful players in England! But yeah, she was just messing a little bit.”
The Lionesses get back underway in their Euro 2025 qualifying campaign in a double header against France.
They play them at home on Friday night at St James’ Park and away on Tuesday 4 June in the Stade Geoffrory-Guichard in Saint-Etienne.
Having picked up a win over the Republic of Ireland and a draw against Sweden in their first two qualifiers, the defending European champions will be looking to pick up as many points as possible in what promise to be two challenging games.
England vs France is live on talkSPORT on Friday night from 8pm
