Keinan Davis achieved hero status as he saved Udinese from relegation in their final Serie A game.
The Italian outfit, managed by former Real Madrid and Inter Milan defender Fabio Cannavaro, snatched a 1-0 victory late on in a huge relegation six-pointer against Frosinone on Sunday.
Second half substitute Davis’ 76th minute effort was enough to condemn their opponents to relegation instead.
Six years ago, the centre-forward was representing England Under-20s.
After rising up the ranks from Aston Villa’s academy to the first team in 2017, Davis went on to make 86 appearances for the Villans.
However he only netted six goals and bagged seven assists in that time.
Loans at Nottingham Forest and Watford at the end of his time at Villa saw him net 12 times in 56 appearances collectively.
But following his permanent move to Italy in the summer, he’s now written himself into his new club’s history books.
That’s despite Sunday’s goal being his only one in eight appearances for Udinese after missing a large majority of the season through injury.
Cannavaro’s side finished 15th in the end, two points ahead of 18th-place Frosinone.
The hosts – who had only needed a point to survive – missed out on securing back-to-back Serie A seasons for the first time ever.
Cagliari and Empoli also stayed up by the skin of their teeth, both finishing one point above the drop zone.
Meanwhile, Frosinone joined already relegated Sassuolo and Salernitana in dropping down to Serie B.
