Netflix documentary Full Swing caught Rory McIlroy’s never-seen-before reaction to the PGA Tour’s sudden agreement with the Saudi Public Investment Fund.
The world No.2 is at the centre of Full Swing’s second season, which was released on Wednesday, covering another tumultuous year in the world of golf.
It goes behind the scenes of McIlroy’s torturous bid to end a decade-long major drought and tracks his fight against LIV Golf on behalf of the PGA Tour.
However, that fight was rendered meaningless when the Tour announced a framework agreement with the Public Investment Fund, which bankrolls LIV Golf, on June 6.
Players, including McIlroy, were left completely blindsided by the Tour’s move and the Northern Irishman admitted to feeling like a ‘sacrificial lamb’ in a press conference shortly afterwards.
McIlroy has since softened his stance on LIV Golf, pushing for a deal to get done so the sport’s best players can reunite under the same umbrella.

He recently quit his role on the Tour’s Player Advisory Council, giving up voting privileges as talks with the Public Investment Fund continue – but one moment in episode two of Full Swing shows the moment McIlroy nearly snapped.
Netflix were following the superstar golfer in his car around the time of the framework agreement and he admitted his work off the course was starting to feel futile.
McIlroy said: “There is a palpable vibe of confusion and anger because we have very little information now, apart from: they’ve entered into an agreement and we don’t know what that agreement is going to involve.
“You get dragged into these things from time to time and I’ve been dragged in, in a big way.
“But I’m almost at the point where it’s like, f*** it, do whatever you want to do.”
The docuseries also captures the full extent of McIlroy’s frustration with his own game.
The 34-year-old finished in the top-ten of three out of the four major championships in 2023, including a runner-up finish at the US Open, but ultimately came up short for the tenth year running.
Netflix footage shows McIlroy sitting down with his team inside the locker room at Oak Hill Country Club after a T7 finish the PGA Championship, calling for a total ‘reboot’.
Brooks Koepka had just overtaken McIlroy with a fifth major title, something the Northern Irishman admitted he was rooting against at the Masters earlier in the year.
He said: “I f***ing s*** myself over left pins. My technique is nowhere near as good as it used to be.
“I almost feel like I want to do a complete reboot. It’s the only way I feel like I’m going to break through.
“It feels so far away. I’m not at the stage of my life where I feel like I can do these two-week bootcamps.
“I feel good enough to f***ing top-ten in my head, but not good enough to win. Like pull away.
“Like winning f***ing major championships.”
