Heart of Midlothian vs Rangers F.C. predictions
For Rangers, it was not meant to be. Whatever happens this weekend, Philippe Clement’s side can no longer win the Scottish Premiership title.
Celtic’s 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock in the midweek round of fixtures moved them six points clear of their arch-rivals in top spot. With just one game remaining, Rangers are unable to bridge that gap.
Victory over Celtic last weekend would have kept them in contention. Rangers headed into that game three points adrift, knowing that they realistically needed to win at Parkhead to remain in contention.
Instead, they went down to a 2-1 loss. Things might have been different had John Lundstram not been sent off on the stroke of half-time, but the Rangers man was the only person to blame for his bout of ill-discipline.
In fairness to Clement, he cannot be blamed for the Gers falling short this season. Michael Beale was the man in the Ibrox dugout at the beginning of the campaign until three defeats in his first seven games brought his ill-fated tenure to an end.
Had Rangers won just two of those matches, they would be neck-and-neck with Celtic going into the final day. As it is, that poor start to the season left them with too much ground to make up.
Clement can still be proud of the fact his team took the title race to the last week of the campaign. Had the season begun when he was installed as the club’s new manager, Rangers would actually be top right now.
That gives the blue half of Glasgow some hope going into next term. And there is still one prize to play for in 2023/24: next weekend, Rangers will renew hostilities with Celtic in the Scottish Cup final.
Before then, Clement’s charges will bring their Premiership campaign to an end against Heart of Midlothian on Saturday.
Hearts vs Rangers betting tips
Hearts and Rangers will conclude their Scottish Premiership campaigns in a lunchtime kick-off on Saturday
Hearts or draw – 6/5 (Sky Bet)
Rangers kept their slim title hopes alive by beating Dundee on Tuesday, but Celtic extinguished them with that thumping triumph over Kilmarnock 24 hours later.
For a while it looked like Rangers would go down with a whimper. They went 2-0 down at Ibrox, only to come roaring back to win 5-2.
However, Clement’s players may be short of motivation for this fixture now that they are guaranteed to finish second. There is also the possibility that the Rangers boss shuffled his pack ahead of the cup final, which is now a much bigger match than this one.

Additionally, a trip to Hearts is more testing than a home game against Dundee. The former have accumulated 26 more points this season and have lost only one of their last seven encounters
Rangers have beaten Hearts five times in various competitions in 2023/24, but Steven Naismith’s side, who have not lost a home game since December, could make it sixth time lucky here.

Both teams to score and over 2.5 goals – 4/5 (Sky Bet)
Hearts are guaranteed to finish third for the second time in the last three seasons. Rangers cannot do any better or worse than a second-place finish. That means the pressure is off both teams on the final day.
With the weather forecasts offering highs of 19 degrees on Saturday, we could be set for an enjoyable encounter in the Edinburgh sun.
In Rangers’ last eight Premiership matches, this wager would have come through six times. Clean sheets have been relatively hard to come by of late, but the Gers are at least scoring plenty at the other end.
Hearts will also give this a good go. They scored three against Dundee last weekend and two against St Mirren in midweek.
Some of Rangers’ players could be auditioning for a place in the cup final team, while Hearts will be keen to sign off on a high after a successful season. Attacks may well get the better of defences at Tynecastle Park.
⚽ Tip both teams to score and over 2.5 goals at 4/5 with Sky Bet ⚽
Lawrence Shankland to score any time – 5/4 (Sky Bet)
Without Lawrence Shankland at the top of the pitch, Hearts would surely not have qualified for the Europa League play-off round.
The striker is the only player in the Premiership to have reached the 20-goal mark this term. Shankland has 23 to his name, six more than second-placed Matt O’Riley and James Tavernier.
As such, the Hearts sharpshooter will almost certainly become the first man since Kilmarnock’s Kris Boyd in 2017/18 to win the Golden Boot outright while not playing for one of the big two in Scotland.
Shankland scored in both the 3-0 victory over Dundee and the 2-2 draw with St Mirren in recent days.
At the odds available, this is a worthy selection for Hearts vs Rangers on Saturday.
