Johnny Fisher has suggested Tyson Fury’s punching style could cause Oleksandr Usyk problems.
Fury will step into the ring looking to make history and become the first undisputed champion in the four-belt era, but faces a significant obstacle in Usyk on May 18 in Saudi Arabia.
It will be an intriguing clash of styles between the undefeated pair, with Fury expected to try and use his size advantage, standing at 6ft 9ins in comparison to his rival at 6ft 3 ins.
British heavyweight prospect Fisher, who sparred the WBC champion in preparation for his trilogy win over Deontay Wilder in October 2021, has explained why sparring Fury was so awkward.
“It was about two years ago now and it was great to get a taste of it, the class of Fury was unbelievable,” Fisher said on talkSPORT’s Jim White & Simon Jordan show.
“The shots come from weird angles and he can throw from irregular positions.
“The strength of the man and the size as well that could play a big role alongside that, with people likely to discount it.
“His movement that he is known for earlier in his career, but the size of the man has to be counted for.”
Fury has a unique fighting style, one which has yet to be conquered by any fighter during his meteoric rise to the pinnacle of the sport.
Usyk could represent his toughest test yet as a southpaw with an elite skill set, which has seen him mirror Fury’s success in the division.
The ‘Gypsy King’ has now adopted a more aggressive style under the guidance of trainer SugarHill Steward, and will no doubt look for a stoppage on the night.
However, he is expected to weigh in at his career-lightest, which could be a sign that he could look to utilise his movement and speed.
Fisher has assessed the legacy-defining battle, and will be supporting Fury despite being uncertain on the outcome.
“The closer it gets the more I feel it is anyone’s game,” he continued.
“I’m a Tyson Fury fan and logic would say a big man beats a little man, but something about it is on edge.
“Usyk is so focused and he is a big man himself. He is 6ft 3 ins and 16 stone, so he isn’t going to be running away from Tyson Fury.
“I just hope that Fury has enough to steal that victory.”
The winner of the illustrious meeting will become the first heavyweight fighter with the undisputed title since Lennox Lewis in 1999.
