The most important week in the golfing calendar is upon us as the world’s best players make the journey to iconic Augusta National Golf Club to contest the 88th edition of the Masters.
Held since 1934, the Masters has always taken place at Augusta, which has undergone some subtle chances in recent seasons with an additional 10 yards added to the second hole, taking the total yardage to 7,555 yards ahead of the 2024 tournament.
The famed Georgia layout, known for its spectacular flora and fauna, has tended to favour power-packed drivers and that was the case in last season’s edition when Jon Rahm got the better of Brooks Koepka in a weekend duel.
This time around, however, it’s Scottie Scheffler who is considered the one to beat. The 2022 champion, dominant on the PGA Tour in recent weeks, is just 4/1 to claim the Green Jacket for a second time.

The Masters: Scottie Scheffler to win @ 4/1
Sometimes it pays to not ignore the obvious and there’s no denying that Scheffler, on current form, is comfortably the most likely winner of the Masters.
The Texas-based superstar has been posting remarkable tee-to-green numbers this season and he’s arguably getting even better, as evidenced by wins at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship last month.
A cold putter had held back Scheffler but his decision to switch to a matter-head flat-stick is paying handsome dividends and it’s extremely difficult to see him failing to contend for the Masters if he performs to a reasonable level on the undulating Augusta greens.
The 27-year-old has finished in the top 10 in seven of his eight events this season. He boasts solid Masters form figures of 19-18-1-10 and that excellent record could improve further on Sunday.
The Masters: Xander Schauffele to win & each-way @ 16/1
A number of players have made their Major breakthrough at Augusta, Scheffler among them, and this could be the week when Xander Schauffele realises his dream of winning one of the most prestigious titles in golf.
Schauffele has been superbly consistent from tee to green this season, posting strokes-gained numbers which only Scheffler can better, and that long-game prowess has resulted in form figures of 10-3-9-54-4-25-2-5 on the PGA Tour in 2024.
The Californian, runner-up at the Masters in 2019 then third in 2021 and 10th last season, has plenty in his favour heading into the first Major of the year.
The Masters: Cameron Young to win & each-way @ 45/1
Cameron Young is probably the best maiden on the PGA circuit and there is every chance he can finally shed that tag by winning on a huge stage.
Young finished second at the Valspar Championship last time out, where every area of his game was firing on all cylinders, but it’s the irons and the driver which have been the go-to clubs in his career so far.
Augusta National, which demands tee-to-green excellence, is an ideal venue for the New Yorker, as he demonstrated when seventh on his second start last season.
