Ryan Garcia has told Jake Paul he did not drink beer on the scales before his fight with Devin Haney.
The seemingly out-of-control boxer says it was a mixture of apple juice and sparkling water.
Garcia was set to challenge Haney for the WBC super-lightweight title on Saturday, live on talkSPORT, before missing weight by 3.2lbs.
The bout will still go ahead without the belt after promoters scrambled to agree a new last-minute deal.
At a chaotic weigh-in on Friday, the 25-year-old did little to dispel widespread concerns over his mental fitness before the biggest fight of his career.
Garcia chugged from a beer bottle, celebrated the announcement that he missed weight, prayed as the two camps clashed on stage, and fired insults at the crowd during a wild interview.
The American told media there was alcohol in the bottle, but later gave a different story to YouTuber-turned-boxer Paul in a video call.
“It was apple juice and sparkling water,” he tells Paul in a video posted on TikTok by Betr.
“I nearly poured it out, and we were like, ‘Watch – people are going to go crazy for this s***’.”
Paul, who has feuded with Garcia and called him out in the past, responded: “I thought it was real!”
WARNING: Strong language
Garcia also took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to suggest there was no alcohol in the beer bottle.
He wrote: “Apple Juice and sparkling water HEHE.”
Garcia promised to pay Haney $500,000 for each pound he weighed over the 140lbs limit.
Both fighters insisted this was honoured and the failed weigh-in cost Garcia $1.5million, along with his first shot at a world title.
However, reports have claimed Garcia will actually pay $600,000 and two per cent of his PPV upside, with both men simply keeping up appearances as part of the new contract.
In an erratic series of tweets, Garcia said: “Why would I force myself to make weight so I can be weak. Nah I’m here to win. That’s it.”
He added: “I feel great and I got a three pound advantage. Let’s gooo hahahahaa. Winners do what they have to do I’m still sharp.”
Devin Haney vs Ryan Garcia will be live on talkSPORT from 4am on Sunday morning.
