The Pelicans’ NBA playoff hopes could be shattered due to Zion Williamson’s latest injury.
Williamson is out for New Orleans’ play-in tournament game on Friday against the Kings, according to ESPN, after suffering a left hamstring injury during Tuesday’s loss to the Lakers in the No. 7 vs. 8 play-in tilt.
He may miss more games if the Pelicans advance to face the top-seeded Thunder, as ESPN reports Williamson will “be evaluated again in the coming weeks.”
The 23-year-old had a monster game on Tuesday, scoring 40 points on 17-for-27 shooting with 11 rebounds and five assists before he left the game with three minutes remaining.
After being tied at 95 late, the Pelicans fell 110-106 as the Lakers earned the No. 7 seed in the playoffs, where they’ll face the Nuggets.
The Pelicans now need to defeat the Kings, who beat the Warriors on Tuesday, to nab the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference, and they’ll have to do it without Williamson.
