Ask and you shall receive with Bronny James.
Fans at the Lakers game against the Raptors at Scotia Bank Arena made what they wanted loud and clear to everyone in attendance on Friday – breaking into loud chants of “Bronny!” as Austin Reaves got ready for a couple of free throws with Los Angeles comfortably ahead in the closing minute.
Lakers coach JJ Redick gave the fans exactly what they wanted, calling James’ name to go in the closing seconds.
A Lakers foul allowed the rookie to get into the game with just 7.1 seconds left to a roar from the crowd.
James, who has appeared in three games this season, didn’t do anything of note in the short time he was in as the Lakers went on to win 131-125 to move to 4-2 on the young season.
He did however have a big moment on Wednesday night in the Lakers’ win over his dad LeBron’s former team in the Cavaliers.
Bronny James scored the first regular season points of his NBA career with a fadeaway mid-range shot.
The Cleveland crowd, who watched LeBron James play for 11 seasons there and deliver the 2015-16 NBA championship, erupted when the bucket went down.
“It was insane,” Bronny James said. “Much more than I anticipated for sure. It’s all love. It was a nice moment. The chants really got me. I was straight faced, but I felt it and it felt pretty good, especially coming from here.”
Bronny and LeBron became the first father-son duo to play in an NBA game together on Oct 23 against the Timberwolves.
The younger James, 20, who played just one season at USC, is considered a developmental project by the Lakers.
The plan is for him to move back and forth between the Lakers’ active roster and the G League, which opens its season on Nov. 8.
