Wout Weghorst is a name England fans will be very familiar with…
The striker will be part of the Netherlands squad trying to send the Three Lions home on Wednesday night in the Euro 2024 semi-finals.
He has only played a bit-part role in Ronald Koeman’s side so far but has made an impact off the bench, scoring one goal and assisting another at the tournament.
Weghorst was a Manchester United player last year and is now set to come up against a former teammate Luke Shaw as well as several other Premier League stars.
But since that spell at Old Trafford, he has seemingly gone off the radar so talkSPORT.com takes a look at who he plays for now…
Who does Wout Weghorst play for now?
Surprisingly, Weghorst is still a Burnley player.
He has been since 2022 and is still contracted with the Clarets until 2025 despite not playing a single game for the club for over two years.
Last season, the 31-year-old was on loan at Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
Weghorst made 30 appearances for the German side and scored seven goals.
And as previously mentioned, the year before that he spent at Man United where he didn’t manage to find the net in the Premier League.
His relationship with Burnley has been rocky, to say the least, as he has previously clashed with ex-teammates on the international stage.
However, new Clarets boss Scott Parker may decide to try and win over Weghorst and keep him at Turf Moor this campaign despite recent links with Roma and Ajax.
Speaking about the big man, Parker said: “I haven’t spoken to him.
“He’s obviously away in the Euros and the last thing I would want to do is bother him in any way.
“He’s got a big game and bigger things to focus on, but he’s a player I’m familiar with.
“He’s our player and I’m looking forward to meeting him once the Euros are done with.”
Weghorst will be in action against England tonight, live on talkSPORT, hoping to remain in Germany for a bit longer and get his hands on the Euro 2024 title.
