Spain vs Germany predictions
Based on what we have seen at Euro 2024 so far, Spain vs Germany would be a fitting final. Instead one of these two teams will not even make it through to the last four.
The knockout stage bracket is undoubtedly lopsided, with Portugal, France and this duo on the same side of the draw. Yet there was always a high chance that Spain and Germany, who both won their groups as expected, would meet at this stage of the competition.
La Roja are the only team at the Euros to have won every match they have contested. That is a solid accomplishment when you consider they were drawn in the so-called group of death.
Spain kicked things off with a 3-0 defeat of Croatia, before back-to-back 1-0 victories over Italy and Albania.
They conceded their first goal of the tournament in the round of 16, as Georgia stunned Luis de la Fuente’s side by opening the scoring in Cologne.
But Spain soon steadied themselves and, in the end, they outclassed the European Championship debutants in a 4-1 victory.
De la Fuente was only a household name in his own residence before the Euros got under way, but the Spain manager has done a fine job of supplementing the country’s traditional virtues with more speed, directness and unpredictability in wide areas.
After Spain, Germany have been the next best-performing team at the tournament up to now. There were a couple of marginal refereeing decisions that went in their favour against Denmark last time out, but the Nationalelf were worthy 2-0 winners overall.
Julian Nagelsmann deserves praise for making Germany competitive so soon after taking charge. The team was a mess as recently as last winter, but right now they look like potential kings of the continent again.
So too do Spain, but one of these sides will be left bitterly disappointed as they exit the Euros on Friday.
Spain vs Germany betting tips
Both Spain and Germany are three-time European champions, but one of these sides will fall at the quarter-final stage in 2024.
Germany to qualify – Evens (bet365)
It is not difficult to make a case for either of these teams to emerge triumphant in the first quarter-final of the competition.
On balance, though, we like the look of a German success – whether it is after 90 minutes, 120 minutes or a penalty shoot-out.
Germany’s weakness is at full-back, something that will no doubt have been pointed out to Lamine Yamal and Nico Williams, Spain’s wing wizards.

Thankfully for the hosts, Antonio Rudiger and Jonathan Tah are excellent one-versus-one defenders capable of covering in behind Joshua Kimmich and either David Rahm and Nico Schlotterbeck if required.
In Toni Kroos they have a pass master in midfield who can rival Rodri, while the likes of Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane will relish the chance to run at a Spanish defence which looked a little uncertain when Georgia broke forward at speed last time out.
With home advantage to call upon, Germany could edge this encounter.
⚽ Tip Germany to qualify at evens with bet365 ⚽
Both teams to score – 4/5 (bet365)
This match has the potential to be a European Championship classic. Whereas Portugal vs France may end up being a cagey, cautious quarter-final, both Spain and Germany will look to play on the front foot here.
Many football matches these days feature one side dominating possession and the other playing on the break.
On Friday, control of the ball should be strongly contested, while both teams are comfortable playing in transition when they need to.
Given the quality of attacking players on display, both Unai Simon and Manuel Neuer will probably end up picking the ball out of their own net at some point.
Spain and Germany each have too much quality going forward to imagine either team keeping a clean sheet. That is good news for the neutrals, who will be hoping for a high-scoring tussle in Stuttgart.
⚽ Go for both teams to score at 4/5 with bet365 ⚽
Jamal Musiala to score or assist – 7/4 (Sky Bet)
Individual awards are thankfully not handed out after just four rounds of games at an international competition. But if they were, Jamal Musiala would be a worthy recipient of both Player of the Tournament and Young Player of the Tournament.
Indeed, the bookies have him down as the favourite to win the senior prize and second-favourite behind the aforementioned Yamal for the junior version.
No player has scored more goals at Euro 2024 than Musiala, who has made the net bulge three times.
That is impressive enough before you consider the Bayern Munich man brings plenty more to the table too.
Musiala is right up there with the world’s best dribblers and he has an eye for a pass too. Whatever the eventual outcome on Friday, the 21-year-old will be worth watching at the sharp end of the pitch.
⚽ Back Jamal Musiala to score or assist at 7/4 with Sky Bet ⚽
