Sevilla vs Barcelona predictions
In only one of the 11 seasons between 2008/09 (Pep Guardiola’s first in the Camp Nou dugout) and 2018/19 did Barcelona fail to pick up a single trophy.
Whether it was the La Liga title, the Champions League, the Copa del Rey or a combination of all three, the Blaugrana almost always had silverware to show for their efforts during that period. In 2008/09 and 2014/15, Barcelona were victorious in all three of those competitions.
In recent years, though, the trophies have dried up. No matter what happens on the final weekend, Barcelona will end the current campaign empty-handed after falling short on all three fronts.
That means for the third time in the last five seasons, the Catalan giants have nothing to celebrate.
Most disappointingly of all, Xavi Hernandez’s side did not even get close to a prize this time around. In La Liga, they trail Real Madrid by 12 points heading into the final weekend.
Meanwhile their bid for Champions League and Copa del Rey glory ended at the quarter-final stage of each tournament, as Barcelona were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain and Athletic Bilbao respectively.
The club has already turned its focus towards the summer, when Barcelona must put a squad together that is capable of doing better next time out.
For a while it looked like they would be under new management. Xavi announced in January that he would step down at the end of the season. But the former midfielder recently performed a u-turn, pledging to stay put until his contract finishes in 2025.
Opinion is split on whether or not that is a good thing for Barcelona, who have gone backwards since winning La Liga in 2022/23.
Indeed, as we head into the close-season there are once again plenty of question marks hovering over a club that used to be held up as a model for others to follow.
Sevilla vs Barcelona betting tips
Sevilla and Barcelona will do battle as the 2023/24 La Liga campaign comes to an end this weekend.
Barcelona to win – 5/6 (Boyle Sports)
Barcelona will at least avoid dropping out of the top two this term. They finished third under Ronald Koeman in 2021/22, but that will remain a one-off (for now) in the post-Guardiola era.
Four points clear of Girona going into gameweek 38, Xavi’s team are guaranteed to be this year’s runners-up.
As for Sevilla, they are guaranteed to end the campaign in the bottom half of La Liga for the second season on the bounce. It is the first time that has happened since 1995-97.
Indeed, Sevilla have been regulars in European competition for the last two decades, while between 2013/14 and 2021/22 they did not drop lower than seventh.

But this has been a disappointing season at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan and Barcelona can compound Sevilla’s woes on the final day.
Two of Barca’s last three away games have ended in defeat, but those matches were against Real Madrid and Girona.
Only Madrid have a better overall away record than the Blaugrana, who can get the job done under the floodlights on Sunday.
⚽ Tip Barcelona to win at 5/6 with BoyleSports ⚽
Under 2.5 goals – 13/8 (BetVictor)
Barcelona won the La Liga title last season primarily because of their defensive solidity. They conceded only 20 goals in 2022/23, seven of which came after they had already claimed the prize.
Their 38 matches last season featured an average of 2.37 goals – a relatively low figure for the champions.
This time around, that figure is 3.24. Only games involving Villarreal and Girona have featured more goals.
Yet on this occasion, we fancy a low-scoring encounter. In their last three games, all of which were victories, Barcelona have shown signs of going back to basics.
Two of those clashes – 2-0 triumphs over Real Sociedad and Almeria – featured under 2.5 goals, while Barcelona kept clean sheets in all three matches.

Raphinha to provide over 0.5 assists – 3/1 (bet365)
Only Alex Baena of Villarreal and Nico Williams of Athletic Bilbao have provided more assists in La Liga than Raphinha this season.
The Brazil international has set up nine goals for his team-mates in Spain’s top flight, leaving him just one shy of double figures.
A left-footed forward who almost invariably looks to get the ball onto his stronger side, Raphinha has at times been criticised as one-dimensional.
But while he will be keen to improve his goal tally next season (his 28 La Liga appearances this time around have yielded six strikes), Raphinha is at least supplying the ammunition for his colleagues.
Over the last couple of months or so, the 27-year-old has played the best football of his Barcelona career to date. Raphinha will be keen to finish on a high this weekend.
