Rafael Leao will miss Portugal’s final group stage fixture Georgia after picking up his second booking of the tournament.
The AC Milan star was booked against Turkey for simulation following a challenge from Samet Akaydin.
Throwing himself to the turf in a bid to win a foul, Leao was immediately penalised and booked for his act of simulation.
Having picked up a yellow card against Czech Republic in their Euro 2024 opener for diving as well, Leao has created his own bit of unwanted history.
Having been booked twice for simulation, the forward became the first player in European Championship history to do in one competition.
In doing so, he will miss Portugal’s final group stage clash against Georgia which takes place on Wednesday night.
Thankfully for Roberto Martinez’s side, the match will have little riding on it.
After securing a 3-0 victory over Turkey on Saturday, Portugal sit top of Group F with six points from their opening two matches.
As well as meaning that they’ve already qualified for the last-16, it puts them in a strong position to top the group.
Portugal will simply need to avoid defeat against Georgia in order to cement first place, a result that would earn them an easier draw in the next round.
Finishing top in Group F would mean that Portugal would face a third-place team from either Group A, Group B or Group C, depending on who progresses in the table of third-place nations.
