Paige VanZant’s long wait for a win continued Saturday night.
The former UFC star hasn’t tasted victory in any sport since 2019, but she was a heavy favourite against adult film star-turned-boxer Elle Brooke at Misfits 15 on Saturday night.
VanZant looked the more accomplished fighter from the start of her boxing debut as she utilised lots of movement, while her opponent plodded forward hoping to land a big shot.
Towards the end of round one, ’12 Gauge’ began to hold her feet and was made to pay for it as Brooke tagged her with a vicious right hook to score a shocking knockdown.
VanZant quickly bounced back to her feet and got back to her original game plan, yet Brooke always remained in the four-round crossover clash.
At the end of the fight, one official gave it to Brooke 48-46, a second judge went 48-46 for VanZant and the third had it 47-47 to make the contest a majority draw.
VanZant has since posted a four-word statement to her Instagram account that suggests she will fight Brooke again in London later this year.
It read: “Rematch August O2 Arena.”
The 30-year-old had a bit more to say during her post-fight interview as she praised Brooke, who had five boxing bouts against fellow influencers before facing the MMA star.
VanZant said: “I knew how tough was. I took the fight for a reason.”
“I was excited. I watched her past fights. I knew it’d be tough.
“It is what it is. It sets up the perfect rematch. I signed a multi-fight contract for a reason. It looks like we’re going to do it one more time.”
VanZant fought Rose Namajunas, Michelle Waterson, and a bunch of other high-profile fighters during her 8-5 career in MMA.
In 2020, the popular American decided to leave the UFC in search of bigger paydays before signing a three-fight $1.2million deal with Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship.
VanZant had two bare-knuckle bouts but hasn’t fought since suffering a loss to Rachael Ostovich in July 2021 because she’s been earning even more cash elsewhere.
In 2022, VanZant, like Brooke, began selling exclusive content on OnlyFans and made more money in one day than she did in all nine of his UFC fights combined.
Brooke was supposed to be her first win in five years, but Ebanie Bridges training partner proved she is better than many people give her credit for.
Perhaps she’ll go one step further by beating VanZant in the rematch, or maybe the former UFC fighter will finally get the wins she’s been chasing for years.
Whatever happens, influencer boxing fans will be hyped to watch them trade blows again.
