Manchester City vs West Ham United predictions
Manchester City are almost there. A victory over West Ham United on Sunday would see Pep Guardiola’s side crowned Premier League champions once again.
City are seeking to become the first team in English football history to win a fourth title on the bounce. Huddersfield Town, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all managed three in a row, but none were able to go beyond.
City are also closing in on their sixth title in the last seven years. Again, that would be a unique feat in the 135-year history of the English top flight.
Guardiola’s men are within touching distance thanks to a 2-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday night. An Erling Haaland double saw City past the north Londoners and moved them two points clear at the summit of the standings heading into the final weekend.
City did not have everything their own way in their game in hand. Many Tottenham fans did not want to see their side win and thus aid the title tilt of their arch-rivals Arsenal. That was not a stance that Ange Postecoglou agreed with, as he revealed after the match.
But despite the feeling of the supporters, there was never any doubt that Tottenham’s players would be trying their best, especially as Champions League qualification was still a possibility at kick-off.
City were not at their best and Son Heung-min spurned a massive chance to equalise for Spurs late on, but the champions ultimately found a way to emerge triumphant.
City have looked ominous for weeks. Since a 0-0 draw with Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on the last day of March, they have won eight games on the bounce.
At the time that goalless draw looked like a good result for Arsenal. Yet City’s subsequent perfection shows that, in hindsight, the Gunners really needed to win that head-to-head clash.
Manchester City vs West Ham United betting tips
Manchester City will be Premier League champions if they beat West Ham United on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester City to win to nil – 9/10 (Betfred)
David Moyes is not holding out much hope for his team’s chances of springing a surprise this weekend.
“It would be difficult to stop their Under-14s winning the title,” he said after West Ham United’s 3-1 victory over Luton Town last time out. “Professional is the word I would use. We will try and do the best we can.”
Manchester City have been in this position several times before and they have not always done things the easy way.

In 2012/13 they found themselves 2-1 down to Queens Park Rangers before Edin Dzeko and Sergio Aguero’s late interventions. Two years ago City went 2-0 behind at home to Aston Villa, before roaring back to win 3-2 and claim the title.
We anticipate a more straightforward afternoon this time around. West Ham having nothing left to play for having dropped out of the race for European football.
City have no need to open up too early. If they control the game and stay defensively solid, they will almost certainly come out on top.

Manchester City to win both halves – 8/11 (Betfred)
Moyes would love to spoil the Manchester City party and end his tenure as West Ham boss on a high.
But when a team has nothing to play for and they are facing a side with everything on the line, it is very difficult to match their intensity.
When you combine that with City’s superior quality overall, it is hard to see anything other than a comfortable home win at the Etihad Stadium.
Getting their noses in front in the first half would calm the nerves of the supporters inside the ground. Going in at half-time, say, 2-0 up would also be deflating for Arsenal, who host Everton on Sunday.
West Ham have had trouble defensively all season long. Only the bottom three have conceded more goals, so they may well struggle to keep City’s attack quiet.

Phil Foden to score any time – 10/11 (Betfred)
Kevin De Bruyne and Ederson were both forced off against Tottenham and at the time of writing we do not know if either player will be fit to start on Sunday.
Phil Foden came through Tuesday’s contest unscathed, though, and he will be keen to sign off on a fantastic season with a goal.
It is easy to forget that Foden was not a guaranteed starter at times last term. For instance, he was a substitute in the Champions League final against Inter.
Fast forward 12 months and the England international is one of the first names on Guardiola’s team sheet.
Foden has scored 17 Premier League goals and 25 in all competitions in 2023/24. Only Haaland has more in both categories.
