Hull City vs Bristol City predictions
The Championship is a notoriously difficult league to predict and it is particularly tough to forecast what Hull City will do this season.
The Tigers missed out on the play-offs by a whisker last term, as results fatally went against them on the final day. The club’s response took many aback: Liam Rosenior, widely considered to have overachieved by getting Hull to seventh, was given his P45.
“It was a difference of opinions,” the chairman Acun Ilicali explained. “Liam is a very good coach and will be very successful. He is young and is a very good character who makes the team love him.
“There are so many positive things, but at the end of the day me and my team are dreaming of something for this club and there is a football style we want to see on the pitch.
“I can’t say what the biggest difference is. Liam’s football philosophy is very good and may be successful but we didn’t see it suiting our character for the future.”
Rosenior’s replacement is Tim Walter, whose previous job was as the head coach of Hamburg. He twice got one of Germany’s biggest clubs into the promotion/relegation play-offs in the second division, but was unsuccessful on both occasions. Walter was then sacked in February.
The German is tasked with keeping Hull competitive while playing a more exciting brand of football. He will attempt to do so with a different squad to the one Rosenior had: Hull have signed five players and sold eight so far this summer.
The aim is to get off to a winning start against Bristol City on the opening weekend, but Liam Manning’s men will arrive at the MKM Stadium with the intention of claiming all three points.
The Robins finished 11th last season and their objective is to challenge for the play-offs this time around, albeit as outsiders. This feels like a game that could go either way.
Hull City vs Bristol City betting tips
This game is hard to call and there is unlikely to be much between Hull City and Bristol City after 90 minutes.
Draw – 11/5 (Sky Bet)
No team has been in the Championship for longer than Bristol City, who are entering their 10th consecutive season at this level. In eight of the previous nine campaigns, they ]finished between 11th and 19th. The sole exception was an eighth-place finish in 2018/19.
Bristol City are nothing if not consistent, but season-ticket holders at Ashton Gate have grown accustomed to their team having little to play for towards the end of the season.

Robins fans should brace themselves for more of the same this time around. They have made some interesting summer signings up to now, but have probably not done enough to really move the needle.
Having said that, Bristol City should have enough about them to at least avoid defeat on Saturday. They are not only facing a much-changed Hull side, but one which is nursing several injuries.
Hull should still be competitive even without some of their key men, so a draw looks like the best bet. In the circumstances, neither team would be too disappointed with that outcome.

Both teams to score – 8/11 (Sky Bet)
One of Walter’s main tasks is to improve Hull’s home form. Despite being the fifth-best team in the Championship on the road, the Tigers ranked 13th in front of their own fans. A slight improvement on familiar turf would have seen them reach the play-offs.
Walter favours a much faster, more dynamic style of play to Rosenior, who was all about patient possession and a gradual build-up.
The new approach will give Bristol City something to think about defensively, but it could also leave Hull open – especially early on in the campaign, when the players will still be getting to grips with their new manager’s demands.
City have a sturdy backline but we fancy goals at both ends at the MKM Stadium.

Max Bird to score or assist – 11/4 (Sky Bet)
Bristol City have officially signed two players so far this summer: Sinclair Armstrong and Fally Mayulu. But they have in effect made three additions to their squad.
A deal for Max Bird was struck in the winter window, but City allowed the Derby County man to finish the season on loan at Pride Park.
Bird is set to make his Bristol City debut this weekend – and he could prove to be one of the signings of this close-season in the Championship.
A deep-lying playmaker who set the tempo of Derby’s play last term, Bird still got forward enough to score six goals last season.
He also chipped in with seven assists and Bristol City fans will hope he can have an impact on his new team from day one.
