Frank Lampard is a contender to replace Vincent Kompany as Burnley manager, talkSPORT understands.
Lampard has been out of work since leaving Chelsea for the second time at the end of last season.
It’s understood talks are at an early stage with the Clarets looking to put plans in place for their return to the EFL.
Kompany was named as head coach of German giants Bayern Munich this week following two seasons in charge at Turf Moor.
Craig Bellamy has been named as the club’s acting head coach, supported by Mike Jackson.
Bellamy is a contender to take the role permanently, however he is also in contention to join Kompany in Munich as part of his backroom team.
Lampard is looking for a route back into management after a year out of work.
The former England midfielder was handed his big break with Derby, leading them to the Championship play-off final in his first year in charge.
The Chelsea legend then returned home by taking the head coach role with the Blues the following season,
He lasted 17 months in charge at Stamford Bridge before being sacked in January 2021.
Lampard then spent a year in charge of Everton before being replaced by Sean Dyche and was appointed caretaker manager at Chelsea in April 2023, a role that he left last summer.
Should Lampard be successful in his talks with Burnley, he’ll be facing big expectations with the Clarets among the favourites to secure an immediate promotion back to the Premier League next season.
