Brendan Loughnane didn’t enjoy watching Brock Lesnar in the UFC.
The WWE superstar changed sports in 2007 and became the UFC heavyweight champion by knocking out fight legend Randy Couture in his fourth scrap in the sport.
Lesnar was immediately booked to defend his title against Frank Mir, the man who submitted him in 90 seconds when he made his UFC debut in February 2008.
The rematch at UFC 100 was one-sided in Lesnar’s favour as he took Mir down to the floor and battered him with his XXXXL UFC gloves until the fight was called off in round two.
Lesnar’s rapid rise to the top of MMA brought a ton of new fans to the sport, but as a budding fighter, Loughnane didn’t like watching someone make it look so easy.
The former PFL featherweight champion recently branded the professional wrestling legend’s title win ‘unfortunate’ and insisted what he did would be impossible to replicate in 2024.

“It was quite unfortunate,” Loughnane said during a conversation with Adam Catterall for talkSPORT’s new MMA podcast ‘Uncaged’.
“If I’m going to be honest with you, I find it quite unfortunate that somebody was able to walk in from the WWE and do that.
“I was like, ‘Come on, we are better than this. Someone has just come from wrestling and walked to the top level of MMA.’
“That could never happen again in this day and age. I truly believe that couldn’t happen again and that shows how far this sport has come from UFC 100.
“You’ve got kids now that are knocking around Manchester that are 10 years of age and would twist you up. Grown men, they’ll pull you down to the floor and they’d submit you.
“That shows how far this sport has come.”
After beating Mir, Lesnar made one more defence of his title before surrendering it to Cain Velasquez and suffering a brutal KO loss in his comeback bout against Alistair Overeem.
Lesnar ultimately retired from MMA with a 5-3 record in 2016.
The 46-year-old won his last fight against Mark Hunt by decision, but the result was overturned to a no-contest when he failed a UFC 200 drug test.
Fans had hoped he would return for UFC 300 this weekend, but Dana White shut down talk of Lesnar coming back and it now seems that he’ll never return to the Octagon.
